I have at least twenty drafts, about seven highly developed, another five of loose paragraphs, three titles and the rest of floating annotations, I had no shortage of ideas: I just needed a question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4:24 am on January 1, 2019 in Buenos Aires, gathered with friends on the rooftop of a building watching fireworks and all the choreographic paraphernalia involved in the arrival of the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between the pyrotechnic orchestra and the sound promiscuity of the big cities, a rhythm was nuanced. A rhythm that structured a melody, a melody that at the same time sustained the rhythm. And in that process of feedback, in that synergy: they were differentiated: they formed an entity: an identifiable unit: with identity: It was Peruvian music. Undoubtedly, those who were there, were subjects who identified themselves in a community and were having a great time. Bordering each other, condensed between two buildings 50 meters high, and at equal distance from my eyes I saw them dancing, they radiated joy, an atmosphere, a complete experience: everything made sense. They were immersed in a ritual of celebration, but what are they celebrating, the survival of a myth, a myth that in order to continue to exist celebrates itself. For the myth to operate it must rest on a blind trust that this is so: a matter of faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Santa Fe, Argentina, a city addicted to traditions, a territory where the latest rhetorical means are used to simulate a lost harmony that was not such at the time. They invoke the past as a stylization, the gaucho and the enlightened nationalism coexist. Among so much conservatism, added to the fear and ignorance left over from the dictatorships, novelty is something unusual. In that context, being a non-normal is something that makes it difficult, even today. That's where I grew up and spend most of my days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was around midnight on a Friday night in Santa Fe. Like every weekend, I would meet up with my friends to catch up. I was crossing one of those dusty corners of the city, where projects that have become legends coexist. Unusually, from some large windows that once illuminated a garment workshop, a party was going on. The sounds that flowed were not usual, they suggested novelty to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I followed my pulse and set about locating the entrance. It was a large, heavy, two-leaf door, each with a large pane of TRIPI #1 71 glass from which one could see a totally stripped corridor that housed only, at its other end, a staircase. I entered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As I climbed the steps, the atmosphere enveloped me more and more, until after a step it began to happen: the flash unveiled dissonant snapshots amalgamated by the haze of the atmosphere. My astonishment was awakened. Sequins, leopard, lam\u00e9, latex, with or without clothes...; water, champagne, beer, cocktails...; young, adolescent, old, ageless...; frenzy, trance, statics, movement in excess...; acrylic hair, in excess...; acrylic hair, in excess...; acrylic hair, colored, white, without, long, short, combed...; drag, rocker, transvestite, hippie, gothic, punk... A repertoire of contemporary images that in my mind did not coexist all at once materialized in front of my eyes as an entity. An epiphany. Glitch in the matrix. It was an unforgettable night, I met incredible people. Nothing was ever the same again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What I experienced was a celebration of today in today's codes. Which also rests on a dogma, here the most different is the most orthodox. The norm is to be different, to be the other, one. One the other among so many non-identical pairs. But as a whole, in the face of a standardized criterion that legitimizes the equal, we are the other. Clearly, it was a celebration, the celebration of the privilege of being able to mutate, of the privilege of making displacements, of the privilege of producing lx distintx, of the privilege of being the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If, in this context, being part of an otherness makes life difficult, and I want to be as much me as I can, I should have some pathology associated with a self-submission syndrome, a Stockholm with myself, hostage to suffering and condescension by my will. I mean... who wants to have a bad time? If I choose to, I'm crazy, and if I don't, I'm crazy too. So... what am I doing, what am I being, doing myself, being sincere?.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What changes in the face of a status quo is susceptible to be the other, but I do not feel that we are the other, rather I feel that we are what we are today, sincere with our time. Fruits of a dissonant symbolic bombardment, which does not acquire a stable entity, which vibrates, which mutates, time dissolves in our hands. To change, to renew, to be reborn: All Time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nothing is pure in this world, everything is shaped in the mixture and everything mutates. There is nothing that is not constituted in contact with the different. Everything is constituted in contact with the different. 72 To adopt a closed, limited identity implies exclusion through invisibilization, incomprehension or intolerance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our ritual is ephemeral, fleeting and imperfect: it mutates, moults, changes. There are no otakus, transvestites, queers, drags...; no reggaeton, cumbia, techno...; no costumes, no music, here today and there tomorrow. We are not interested in defining ourselves, limiting ourselves, we do not want to stabilize, we simply want to become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We recognize ourselves as dreaming, loving, desiring, fragile subjects. Being one, one at a time. In a world where orthodoxies try to limit love, to offer ourselves from subjectivity is to expose the sacred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In order to continue to exist, the myth celebrates itself and needs faith to operate. And here, gathered together, we celebrate being authentic, protecting each other, showing each other that we are not alone, giving us faith, sustaining our myth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And as sincere daughters of today, we need to lower the volume a little and pay attention to the side. We are going through a time of demands and resistance, it is time to start embracing and strengthening ourselves. To look for the gaze of the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let us strengthen our love in our differences, let us be attentive to each other. Let us be united by this sincerity, let us give what is needed today, faith. And here I am, with my friends, in our ritual, celebrating each other, looking into each other's eyes, permeating each other, making each other vulnerable and resting in each other's embrace.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
